Once the women and their backers had the league established in the public consciousness, the venues booked and the publicity machine grinding out (seemingly) daily press releases announcing a bewildering array of product tie-ins, extra services and ancillary rights it was time for the first matches. But that didn't stop the drumbeat of publicity or cagily conceived marketing such as pre- and post- PPV shows with local 'on air' talent acting as studio hosts and hostesses (all cutting back to 'live' interviews with the various stars which had been pre-taped, sometimes weeks before, but which were professionally scripted and edited to make it appear as if the 'local talent' was actually conversing with the celebrities. It not only gave the fans the illusion of a live sporting event, but allowed the local anchors to puff up their importance for their fans and thus ensure themselves of an additional income stream as they hosted 'fanfests' and got the opportunity to appear on stage with celebrities during their publicity tours!

The celebrities began training as soon as the possibility of the league looked like it might get off the ground - and although many of them worked out on a daily basis to maintain their firm, taut figures, all of the woman needed additional training to put themselves over as (at least semi-skilled) wrestlers. Quite a few hired former or current professional wrestlers (ones who saw the handwriting on the wall and knew the emergence of celebrity wrestling would be the death knell of woman's pro wrestling as a mainstream media event.) Those who didn't sign on in an advisory capacity or as 'managers' or 'valets' quickly found themselves relegated to working for video wrestling companies, Internet streaming video producers or in 'adult' entertainment where their fighting skills and willingness to not only 'take it all off' but perform in the buff continued to allow the younger, better looking (and less demanding salary-wise) women a decent living for a few more years.

The first matches - involved celebrities whose schedules permitted and/or those whose training had progressed sufficiently - hit the airwaves in Spring 2004, timed to coincide with the end of the broadcast networks spring ratings 'sweeps' period. From the first, the shows were a smash hit and everyone involved was excited by the prospects for wealth and fame beyond their dreams. Naturally, the teams who were more advanced in training, or who were simply lucky enough to get in a few matches before the rest got up to speed enjoyed an early advantage over the less seasoned competition. Partly this was a matter of luck, but also some cagey scheduling decisions helped in building 'heat' for the early summer when the bulk of the matches would occur! The early shows were scheduled in cities/venues where a good crowd was assured and in large stadiums, where possible. Also, carefully selected slates of preliminary matches pitting less well-known actresses and moderately well-established singers ensured a good demographic. Finally, a few matches featuring local sororities, dancers, waitresses and local radio/TV personalities guaranteed huge local free publicity which helped swell the crowds.
